About True Building

Owner, Raleigh Pruett

My name is Raleigh Pruett. I am a native Angelino born in East Hollywood. As mentioned in my home page, I am a general contractor and I have been doing construction and remodeling since I was about 14 and have considered it what I do since before that. I consider building an art and it has been my passion for a long time. Because of that I have studied and worked in many trades in the construction industry and can do most of the trades that go into building a home fairly proficiently.

While working in different trades I’ve discovered that three things separate the truly professional builder or contractor from others. The first, and in my opinion the most important, is a desire to see a product that is well built; even artistic, no matter how simple the design. The second is attention to detail. The more detailed one's attention is, the better the product tends to be. The third is experience but in my opinion is not much good without the first two.

My goal as a contractor is to build the things I am hired to build at a quality that one would expect of a master builder. Here are a list of the services I provide:

  • Residential remodeling. If you have part or all of a home you would like to change in a significant way, I can be hired to assemble a team of well qualified sub-contractors and run your project from start to finish ensuring a timely and professional product is gotten.

  • Kitchen remodel. While this is actually a subcategory of the first point it is one of two places in your home that could be the most expensive to remodel and therefore should be given special attention as you don’t want shoddy work done on the most expensive room in your house. A well designed and built kitchen can also significantly increase the value of your home.

  • Bathroom remodels. This is another subcategory of the first but like the second is another important, useful and valuable room in your home. As such, if not properly done it can either make your daily life and home value go down the toilet (forgive the pun) or give it a fresh enjoyable feel. Don’t hire a sloppy or shady contractor or handyman to remodel your bathroom.

  • Light commercial remodel. While the day has yet to come where I am commissioned to build an entire large commercial building, I have done several light commercial remodeling projects. What I mean by “Light commercial” is office spaces, stores, etc. as opposed to building an entire hospital or something on that scale.

  • Decks, Arbors, Gazebos and things of that nature. Some of my favorite things to build are outdoor wood structures. As you can see on the portfolio page of this site I have done a number of them ranging from fences and gates to pergolas and decks. When hired to do these projects I do them myself as I love this kind of work and enjoy nothing more than working outside with wood.

  • Carpentry jobs. Whether it is framing or finish carpentry such as molding, cabinet setting, built-ins, etc. I can do it. Both trades are similar and require a specific set of knowledge for each that in many ways overlap from one to another. The real difference between the two, and why you normally don’t hire a framer to do finish carpentry or visa versa, is that the error tolerances for finish carpentry are much smaller than for framing. However I have done quite a bit of both and am proficient in either trade.
  • This should give you a general idea of what I do and what sort of things you might want to contact me to help you build or have built. If there is something you are thinking of building but are not sure if it is something I can or would do, feel free to contact me anyway and we can discuss it. I don’t charge for correspondence!
